What happens if a country I’m travelling to is changed to a ‘Reconsider Your Need to Travel’ warning?

Your Fast Cover travel insurance policy may provide cover for claims arising from or associated with travel to a country (or part of a country) that has been assigned a ‘Reconsider Your Need to Travel’ warning by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Smartraveller or another official government body.

However, whether cancellation or other costs are covered depends on several factors, including (but not limited to):

• Whether your travel arrangements are, or would be, affected by the event or situation that led to the warning, and

• Whether the warning relates to an event that is otherwise excluded under your policy (for example, acts of war or epidemic-related events).

When a ‘Reconsider Your Need to Travel’ warning is issued, you should carefully review your policy’s terms, conditions, and exclusions to understand how it may apply. You must also take reasonable steps to avoid or minimise any potential claim under your policy.

Please note: Your policy does not provide cover for travel to countries (or parts of countries) that have a ‘Do Not Travel’ warning issued by DFAT or any other government authority.
